Symmetrical Movement Technique
Symmetrical Movement Technique (Stick Stretching) is an innovative, systematic, and effective approach to fitness and body awareness through warming up, stretching, and toning while using a four or six-foot stick as a partner and tool. A gentle blend of Yoga, Tai Chi and martial arts, its purpose is to learn new motor skills paying attention to posture and alignment training, as it relates to personal and mechanical efficiency. These postures engage both sides of the body in the toning and limbering process. Left and right side of upper and lower body are dynamically and statically trained through a conscious process for establishing balance and symmetry.
The intention is to enhance the health of the musculoskeletal system and organs, which increases the flow of life energy, so that we can become more at ease inside our bodies and in the world. Increased physical grace, endurance, strength, agility, grounding and balance, as well as enhanced self-esteem and self-image, are the natural results of this technique.
Symmetrical Movement exercises begin with a basic stance and move into a wide range of postures learning how to utilize a stick to maximize stretching, increase range of motion in the joints, release muscle tension, and maintain a healthy spinal alignment. Working with the stick, people become more creative as they learn how to direct it and initiate stretches tailored to their own needs. Fundamentally, this exercise system is designed to maximize joint range of motion intelligently throughout the body… while having fun in the process!

Chiropractic is one of the most widely used forms of complementary health care. It is a natural method of health care that focuses on treating the cause of physical problems, rather than just the symptoms. Chiropractic is based on a simple but powerful premise: With a normally functioning, flexible spine and a healthy lifestyle, your body is better able to heal itself. That's because the spinal cord, which is protected by the spine, is the main pathway of your nervous system. This nervous system helps in co-ordination of pathways which control feeling, movement, and function throughout your body. The spine can develop areas of inflexibility from many different causes, including genetics, injuries, or poor posture. Chiropractors make spinal adjustments to help overcome these pockets of inflexibility. This type of treatment may be especially effective if you have back, neck, or joint pain.
Chiropractors have studied body mechanics, and are like "mechanics" for your body. Besides treating patients for pain and loss of motion, teaching appropriate and safe exercises is an important part of Chiropractic care, After a Chiropractor adjusts a vertebrae restoring correct alignment, it is then up to the patient to learn the appropriate exercises to help hold the adjustment as well as restore good posture and balance. “What you don't use, you lose,” is a statement that applies to muscle tone, flexibility and physical stamina. Lack of proper exercise can contribute to recurring spinal misalignment, and resultant poor health. This will create distortion of the natural spinal curves that are necessary for proper balance and mobility.
